A new picture of the small child

From the day they're born, children are researchers, explorers and actors in their own development processes at their own pace of development.

Learning and education take place as a social process in the context of the child's culture and of the community around them from when they're young. There are certain values and skills which a child has to acquire today in order to get by in the world tomorrow.

Safety, relations and trust
Healthy development and optimised learning requires an environment in which a child feels safe and cared for, as well as people around the child who meet his or her needs and requirements with sensitivity and respect.

Challenges
Our children are growing up in a world in which a whole array of individual decisions have to be made and where break-ups and changes in direction have to be negotiated skilfully. This calls for independence, initiative, a sense of self-worth, creativity and the ability to manage in different environments.

Learning (and living) together
Social skills are, and remain, one of our central pillars and bases for living together as a society. Mutual respect, a willingness to help one another, commitment, care, the love of discussion and debate, the ability to proactively make contact with others and the nurturing of relationships are all part and parcel of this.

Unique and part of a group
In the course of our teaching, we take due account of each child's own particular situation, as well as of the dynamics between the children at group level. Every time children receive positive or negative feedback from the people with whom they interact, whether it be a child or a grown-up, they gain confidence and confirmation for their actions. They learn what works or what is more likely to cause bother, thereby broadening their range of activity.

Geared towards the world we live in and our senses
Our teaching activities are primarily determined by the children's interests in particular topics or by cultural and seasonal events. We work with the children on projects and let them experience each chosen topic over a certain period of time on a multi-sensory level and from a variety of perspectives.
