Day childcare from 3 years of age
A daycare kindergarten generally takes children from 3 years of age until they start school and guarantees full-time childcare, including lunch. Two years of pre-school kindergarten are now compulsory.
Staff
Most groups of children are led by a trained kindergarten teacher.
Parental involvement
Depending on the centre, parental involvement may be required. This facilitates close contact and mutual support. It also ensures that parents have a significant influence on the form of childcare given.
Costs
Depending on subsidies, parents will be responsible for some or all of the costs. However, these costs are reduced substantially by parental involvement.
Public kindergartens
The public kindergarten in the city of Zurich is only aimed at children aged 4-6. It is only open between 8 am and midday and one afternoon per week. It is then up to the parents to organise childcare over lunchtime and in the afternoon.
