Playgroups take children from the age of 3 for 2-3 hours at a time, one to three times a week.
A playgroup is a constant group of small children which is led by a playgroup leader with teaching qualifications. Playgroups are primarily a field for social experience. The children get to experience being away from their mothers for the first time and learn how to cope in a group of other children.
There is a wide array of toys and activities on offer to appeal to all the children's senses.
Costs
Playgroups are funded through parental contributions (CHF 7 to 10 an hour) and are mainly self-supporting. Depending on the region, playgroups receive initial funding from foundations or institutions to get them started.
